Jon Neergaard, age 79 of Nashville, was born September 8, 1944 and passed away August 23, 2024.
Preceded in death by his father, Richard William Neergaard; mother, Olive Iona Newport Neergaard; brothers, Richard William Neergaard (Anita) and Charles Edward Neergaard (Norma); sister, Iona Jo Neergaard Kohrt (Harold); niece, Sandra Neergaard; nephews, Jeffery Alan McMillin and Michael McMillin.
Jon is survived by his sisters, Rowena Neergaard McMillin (John) and Carrie Lea Neergaard Shaeffer (D. Lynn); nieces, Eleanor Neergaard Bolick (Lloyd), Patti Neergaard Minter (Richard), Kathy Kohrt Colson (Donald), Karin Neergaard Elliott (Edward), Debbie Neergaard Thompson (Scott), Jaye Ann McMillin Petro (William), and Cara Jo McMillin Pomidoro; nephews, Richard William Neergaard (Cindy), Kenneth Kohrt (Laura), Karl Kohrt, Derek Keith Shaeffer (Debbie), and Ian Patrick Shaeffer (Renee).
Following his education at Washington & Lee University (BS) and University of Virginia (PhD), Jon spent several years at Vanderbilt University as a Post-Doc working under a noted chemistry researcher. During that time he contributed to several published papers regarding his research. Jon then spent 30 years teaching chemistry at Montgomery Bell Academy. He supported the athletic department thereby providing video recordings of athletic events and could be counted on to add a little music to many assemblies.
Jon was a longtime, active member of Glendale Baptist Church, supporting all of its ministries. He especially contributed to its music ministry with his musical skills as a choir member, guitarist, and composer. He was also a member of the Percy Priest Yacht Club serving as Commodore for several years. He was an accomplished musician, performing his own compositions periodically at the Commodore Grill. In addition, he enjoyed bringing joy to others by performing at church and community events and anywhere a group of friends were gathered.
Visitation will be at Phillips-Robinson Funeral Home on Wednesday, Sept. 4th from 4-8 pm. Services will be conducted at Glendale Baptist Church, 1021 Glendale Ln. Nashville, TN 37204, Thursday, Sept. 5th at 3 pm with visitation 1 hour prior. Graveside services will be private in LaFollette, TN. https://www.phillipsrobinson.com
