Cecil Larry Pope was born May 3, 1936, in Madison, County, Alabama to the union of Otha and Jessie Mae Pope. Cecil was the 5th child born to their union. He departed his life on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
Cecil was raised in Nashville, Tennessee. He was educated in Nashville Public Schools. After schooling, he enlisted in the United States Armed Forces branch of the Army where he served his county in WW II and received an Honorable Discharge. Cecil was later employed by Tennessee Dept of Transportation and was blessed to retire.
Cecil was former member of McNairy Hill United Primitive Baptist Church where he served as usher, choir member and deacon. Cecil loved the Lord and enjoyed serving others. Cecil was presently a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, Inc.
Cecil and Bernice Smith were joined in matrimony April 25, 1967. They spent a total of 66 wonderful years together as soulmates and best friends.
Cecil loved a beautiful yard. He enjoyed fishing, watching his favorite football team the Green Bay Packers, popping popcorn for family and neighborhood events which earned him the name “Mr. Poppey”, he was always ready to serve.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, Otha and Jessie Mae Pope, 3 sisters (Hazel Stewart, ADA Parker and Olivia Blackman).
Those left to celebrate his life are his devoted wife, Bernice, daughter, Janice Balderas (Ray) grandson, Bobby Jackson (Ella) and great-grandchildren, Bobbi Simone and Wealth Jackson, devoted brother, Walter L. Pope, Sr., nephew, Walter L. Pope, Jr. (Regina) niece Phyllis Pope Gardner (Tony), a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, devoted dear friends, Richard Wilson (Joyce) Gary Pullen, and Billy Penecost and a host of other relatives, friends and church family.
