September 12, 2023 – The driver killed in Monday’s 4:45 p.m. three-vehicle collision on Hobson Pike at Couchville Pike is identified as Marcus Davis II, 28, of Mt. Juliet.
The preliminary investigation shows that Davis was driving his gray 2021 Toyota Corolla north on Hobson Pike when, according to witnesses, he attempted to pass another northbound vehicle, also a Toyota Corolla (teal in color). Davis crossed over the no-passing double yellow lines and collided head-on with a southbound van. Davis was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.
The driver of the van, Selamawit Habte, 37, was transported to Vanderbilt with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the teal Corolla, Claudio Acuna, 27, was transported to Southern Hills Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
All three drivers were wearing their seatbelts. There were no signs of impairment involved in the crash.
