It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Sy Vongsamphanh, who passed away on May 23, 2023.
Mr. Vongsamphanh was born on May 2, 1943, in Laos, and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Mr. Vongsamphanh was fiercely dedicated to his family. He led his family’s efforts to flee war-torn Laos in the early 1980s after the U.S. CIA withdrew American troops. As a helicopter pilot, Mr. Vongsamphanh exhibited quiet confidence and infinite wisdom, helping his family and others to escape danger and seek refuge in a new country. He always took a backseat, allowing his wife and children to shine in the spotlight.
Mr. Vongsamphanh enjoyed the simplicity of life and found immense joy in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. He always put his family first, and his love for them was unwavering.
Mr. Vongsamphanh is survived by his children: Khampong Senemaynak and his wife Thimchay, Naly Boutsady and her husband Kevin, Keith Vongsamphanh and his wife Amanda, Pat Dewaratanawanich and her husband Viraphonh, Phoumy Mikavan and her husband Noy, Oudone Vongsamphanh and his wife Pon, John Vongsamphanh and his wife Amber, and Addy Biggers and her husband Kurston. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Vongsamphanh was preceded in death by his wife, Viengkham Vongsamphanh, and a daughter, Ketmany Vongsamphanh. His loss will be felt deeply by his family and all those who knew him.
The family will be holding a service to celebrate Mr. Vongsamphanh’s life and honor his legacy.
A celebration of life for Sy will be held Sunday, May 28, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204, with a gathering of family & friends from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the celebration of life.
