Rochelle-Denise-Mason

Rochelle Denise Mason was born on May 12, 1958 in Detroit, MI to two loving parents, Elizabeth Jane Wilkerson and Gladis Tebe Wilkerson. They were enamored by her beauty and so was everyone in her world. Her parents preceded her in death, but she was a devoted daughter to them all the days of their lives, and protective big sister of her younger brother David.

Raised with discipline and grace, Rochelle received her education in the Detroit Public School system, graduating from Pershing High School in 1976. Captivated by her beauty, grace, and magnetic personality, the love of her life became her high school sweetheart, and soon her husband. On October 24, 1981 Rochelle married Mark Mason and to them was born a loving daughter and son, Ashleigh Elizabeth and Mark Alexander Jr. They had a full set; their family of 4 was complete. Rochelle’s dedication and commitment to her family was unyielding, and her love for them was without bounds. She was the definition of selfless love, and a fierce momma bear.

Raised in the church she served God with her life and was a powerhouse of praise. Rochelle always served with her whole heart. In her time living in Rochester Hills, MI she served with her daughter in the children’s ministry at Oakland Christian Church, often missing out on sitting in Sunday service to ensure children learned the word of God.

She continued to serve when she moved to Nashville, TN and joined True Way Church, serving over the hospitality ministry cooking hot meals for the congregation, often immediately following a 12-hour shift at the hospital, and no rest.

Throughout her career, she lived a life dedicated to service of others. She provided compassionate and quality care to everyone she cared for during her employment at both Beaumont and Tristar Hospital systems. With each patient encounter she ministered to their hearts while taking care of their health. Serving in geriatric, behavioral health, and critical care units, Rochelle was often the sole source of comfort and support for people in need. Despite its challenges and sacrifices she took pride in being able to provide comfort and support when individuals needed it the most. It was her passion to help those that couldn’t help themselves, and on numerous occasions she received gratitude and praise from the families of the patients she served.

She loved life, and she loved those in her life even more. She cared more for the people around her than she often did herself. There was nothing that she wouldn’t do or sacrifice for them. Anyone who knew Rochelle knew she Loved her family, and knew she Loved to laugh. Her smile was infectious and lit up rooms. She loved to cook, have fun, and was always looking forward to going on vacations, getting massages, and shopping till she dropped. All who knew her gushed of her greatness. She was truly one of a kind.

As much as she loved, in return she was loved even more.

At 8:14 pm on Wednesday, May 17th, she transitioned to heaven and left an unfillable void in all our hearts. We were forever and irrevocably changed.

Too soon she left behind to cherish and honor her memories, her husband, Mark Mason Sr.; daughter, Ashleigh Elizabeth (Winston Jr.) Drain; son, Mark Alexander (Brittney) Mason Jr.; grandchildren, Elijah Oliver, Lincoln Xavier, and Emilia Hazel Mason; brother, David Martin (Letitia) Wilkerson; and a wealth of nieces, nephews, and friends. She will be forever missed and forever loved.
