Rev. David Terrell was born on January 22, 1930, in Nashville Tennessee, the eleventh of twelve children born to the late Anna and Melvin Terrell. He passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2023.
He was educated in the Nashville Davidson County Public Schools. After serving proudly in the Military for two and a half years, he attended Tennessee A & I State University and the National School of Business.
During his early years, David attended church at Belle Meade Primitive Baptist Church. He later joined Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. After returning from Flint Michigan, David continued his service for Christ at Evans Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he is presently an active and loyal member and serves as one of the Associate Pastors.
David vividly remembers when he was called to preach. As he recalls, he was asleep in bed, and he dreamed that he and his brother were running from something. He says he saw a little old man with a long beard telling him that he was going to save one of them. Then the old man covered him with a blanket, put him on a hill and told him to preach. At that moment, he awakened, and according to his wife, he stood up in the bed and began to preach. From that moment on, Rev. Terrell committed his life to spreading the gospel and good news of the Lord. He preached his first sermon at Macedonia Baptist Church in Flint Michigan.
David was married to the late Della Terrell for fifty-two years. After her death, he united in holy matrimony with Hattie Frances Gardner on June 13, 2013, at the age of 83. Other than his love for his family and church, one of David’s favorite activities was traveling in his motor home to all but two States in America. He also enjoyed fishing. Throughout their marriage, David and Hattie loved boarding large cruise ships and sailing across the oceans to many destinations including Europe, the Caribbean Islands, Hawaii, and Alaska.
One of David’s greatest accomplishments was his employment for twenty years at General Motors in Flint Michigan. At GM, he worked in management and was a 7th Level Supervisor. He consistently received the highest rating for his job performance.
He leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Hattie Gardner Terrell; daughter, Betty Hunter; stepchildren, Major (Barbara) Clay, Patricia (Rev. Bobby) Nichols, and Danny (Nancy) Gardner; daughter-in-law, Deborah Gardner; granddaughter, Glenda Michelle Hunter; step-grandchildren, Meah Clay, Miriam (Nat) Boutte, Mark Clay, Ashley Baxter, Moulten Todd, and Duke Todd; niece and nephews, Celestine (William) Thornton, Dr. William (Geraldine) Terrell, Roger (Brenda) Williams and Steven (Mia) Baynham; devoted friends, Harold Ewin, Jerome Patton, Ronnie Simmons, Rev. Wayne Orr, Rev. Kerry (Tonya) Frazier, Dr. Stella Simpson, Winifred (Larry) Ka-Ron, Patricia Ward, Katie Herron and a host of extended family and friends.
