Larry-Eugene-Cook

Larry Eugene Cook aka Papa finally found out where his wife Betty has been. For the last four years Larry has been calling his children and grandchildren asking where Betty aka Grandmama was. We didn’t have the gumption to tell him she had been happily in heaven for 18 years. On November 16, 2024, he finally saw her again and probably was a (tiny) bit grumpy that she didn’t leave him a note. They are two-stepping in heaven right now—enjoying Wheel of Fortune and discussing the brilliance of their six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Larry was the son of Jewel Davis and Gibb Cook. A graduate of Hume Fogg High School, he graduated and married Betty Donaho. The day after they married, he went to work and never stopped. A true-blue collar hero, he worked every bit of overtime he could, took his lunch in a lunch box most days and sacrificed so that his children could live a bigger life than he could imagine. He made a Herculean leap in life through dogged determination. From growing up (at times homeless) without indoor plumbing and working from age 8 to pay his own way, to owning a home, staying married for over 50 years and raising three children. He traveled all over the United States including Hawaii and Alaska, something a young, poor boy could only dream of doing.

Larry was a member of Tusculum Hills Baptist Church. He was Treasurer of Communication Workers of America, Local 3250, and worked at Western Electric/AT&T most of his life.

After his wife Betty died, he married Pat Franklin and enjoyed ten golden years with her. Pat also preceded him in death.

He is survived by son, Rick; daughter, Cynthia Eubanks; daughter, Cathi (Coleman) Aycock; grandchildren, Ashley Eubanks, Nikki (Sean) Bloomer, Whitney Cook and fiancé Ken Harper, Billy Parker, Cole Aycock and Claire Aycock; great-grandchildren, Knox Cook, Evelyn and Betty Bloomer.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 12:00 noon (visitation 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon) at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Road. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as Pallbearers. https://www.woodbinefuneralhome.com
