Raymond L. Hunter, age 90 of Nashville, Tennessee passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024.
Preceded in death by wife, Norma Watson Hunter.
Survived by daughter, Kristi Hunter (Bryan) Hinton; sons, Ray (Denise Ferrell) Hunter and Kent Hunter; grandchildren, Courtni Hinton (Philip) Mosley, Hunter (Kaitlin) Hinton, McKenzie Hunter (Kevin) Andrade and Payne Hunter; 7 great-grandchildren; and sister, JoAnn (Sonny) Ponder.
Raymond Hunter grew up in Nashville, TN, and attended Isaac Litton High School, where he excelled as a multi-sport athlete: football, basketball, and baseball. Ultimately, his success in baseball earned him an athletic scholarship to MTSU, where he played for two years, prior to transferring to Vanderbilt, where he continued to play as a pitcher, and from where he eventually obtained his degree in business.
While in college, he also acted as a basketball referee at local high school ballgames…this led him to his great love: Norma Watson. Raymond met Norma while reffing a basketball game at David Lipscomb High School, where Norma was a cheerleader. This was merely the start of what ultimately became the lifelong love story of Raymond and Norma.
A true patriot, Raymond served his country in the army for many years. Following his service, he entered the business world, starting and growing his career at Genesco. Additionally, he shared his business savvy with others as a marketing professor at Lipscomb University.
Raymond and Norma had three children, their greatest pride and accomplishment. The only thing greater than Raymond’s love for his family was his love for God. He was a faithful servant to his Creator and served as a teacher and Elder at Vultee Church of Christ for a number of years.
