Joseph Carson Spivey, 66, an active member of Woodson Chapel Church of Christ, passed from this life on Monday, March 21, 2022, at his home in Nashville, Tennessee.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Tamera Smith Spivey; his daughter, Laura Beth Hoskins; his granddaughter, Diane Beth Hoskins; his grandson, Carson Lee Hoskins; and his mother, Nancy Morgan Spivey.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carson Byrd Spivey, Jr., and brother, Jeffrey Alan Spivey.

Joe was born on August 21, 1955, in Terre Haute, Indiana and throughout his life lived in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee. He was the first of two children for Carson Byrd Spivey, Jr. and Nancy Morgan Spivey and he loved reading, hunting, swimming, horse racing, and photography. He was on the swim team and the wrestling team during his high-school years and graduated in 1973. Joe then attended David Lipscomb University and earned his BS in Accounting in 1977. During his time at Lipscomb, he was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi and Circle K International. He met and started dating Ms. Tamera Smith at David Lipscomb in 1976. The couple was married on September 8, 1979. On February 16, 1987, the couple welcomed their daughter Laura Beth.

After graduation, Joe completed his CPA certification and worked for several accounting firms. He also worked for three years in the Military Department of National Guard Armory before going into private practice as a Certified Public Accountant in 1989. His career as a CPA spanned more than 40 years of hard work, integrity, and service. Joe often remarked that some of the most satisfying work performed during his career was the more than 10 years he spent working as a member of the board of directors for the American Eagle Foundation.

Joe loved his wife and was a wonderful father and grandfather. He doted on his grandchildren, Diane and Carson, and was happiest when his family surrounded him. Church members, business associates, and clients all knew Joe to be a good man with a great love for God and his family.
