Ellen Carter Fentress, a longtime Goodlettsville resident, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2022, she was 88 years old.

Born in Russellville, KY, Ellen was the daughter of Fred and Mary Carter.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Maurice Fentress in 2020.

Ellen was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a member of First Baptist Church Goodlettsville where she had participated in the church’s women’s softball team for many years. Ellen played into her 50’s. She loved sports and was an avid walker. She enjoyed walking the track at her church and had participated in the walks across Tennessee that were organized there.

She also loved camping, especially the trips to Florida with Maurice and family. She enjoyed card playing, needlepoint, crocheting, and doing puzzles. Ellen was also a hard worker. She had worked in a shirt factory and also doing commercial cleaning at homes and churches.

Although stern at times, she was kind, loving, and loved providing meals for others. A great cook, she always had room for more at her table and often did.

She is survived by her children, Bobby Ray and his wife Jennie, Anthony Eugene and his wife Kathy, David Earl and his wife Donna, and Darlene Dowlen and her husband Buddy; seven grandchildren, Tracy, Bobby Fentress Jr., Benjamin, Jake, Kristen, Michael, and Keith; 8 great-grandchildren, Tori, Glenn, Alan, Victoria, Alex, Melanie, Bobby Fentress III, and Gracie.

Acting as pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons. Visitation will be held at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home, Goodlettsville, TN on Thursday from 3 until 7 PM, and Friday from 10 – 11 AM. A celebration of life service officiated by Brother Lyle Larson, Pastor at First Baptist of Goodlettsville, and Brother Jerry Heflin, former pastor of First Baptist Goodlettsville will be held at the funeral home Friday at 11 AM followed by interment at Bethlehem Cemetery, Springfield, TN. https://www.coleandgarrett.com

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Goodlettsville, and Hendersonville or Avalon Hospice.
