Deford-Bailey-III

Deford Bailey III, affectionately known as “Bubba D,” was the third born of ten children, born May 12, 1955, to the union of Deford Baily, Jr. and Dorothy Bailey, in Nashville, TN.

He confessed his love for Christ at an early age; his love for Jesus Christ was his stronghold. Bubba was a devoted member of First Baptist Church South Inglewood, where he participated in the male chorus and played the drums.

Bubba D. was educated in Metro Nashville Public Schools, where he graduated from North High School class of 1973. He had a keen ear for music, a gift passed down from his late grandfather, Country Music Hall of Famer, and the first African American to perform on the Grand Ole Opry, Deford Bailey, Sr. also known as “The Harmonica Wizard.”

Bubba was a natural born drummer; his love for music began as a young boy and blossomed while professionally performing along with his late father, Deford Bailey, Jr., at the age of twelve. His music career flourished and opened the door to many performances across the world with musicians like Dobie Grey, Tracy Nelson, Tyrone Smith Review, and Electric Axe.

He retired from Metro Nashville Public Schools under the leadership of Dr. Tina Chamberlain at Chadwell Elementary.

Deford Bailey III was preceded in death by his legendary grandfather, Deford Bailey, Sr.; his beloved Mother, Dorothy Bailey; his revered father, Deford Bailey, Jr., and his talented son, Deford Bailey IV.

He leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his loving sons, Demetrius Steptoe, and Lamont Steptoe.
