Donald Austin Hunt, Sr. of Nashville, Tennessee passed away peacefully on December 27, 2022.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Matilda Stocker Hunt and James Austin Hunt, his wife Barbara Ann Kelly Hunt, and brothers Lonnie Hunt, Jim Hunt, and Charlie Hunt.

He was a loving father to Austin, Scott (Patricia), Kelly, and Britt; the most extraordinary grandfather to Miller (Bryson), Robinson (Sarah), Britt, Bailey, Tessa, Ava, and Stella; and delighted great-grandfather to Carson and Patrick.

He is also survived by his sisters, Mary DeWitz, Elizabeth Meng, Terri Virga (Vince), dear companion Mary Helen Pritchett, and beloved nephew Bryan Meng, who he loved like a son.

Don graduated from Reitz Memorial High School in Evansville, Indiana after which he played football at Vanderbilt University.

While in Nashville, he met and married Barbara Ann Kelly Hunt. During their 57 years of marriage, they raised four children and celebrated the blessing of seven grandchildren.

In 1991, Don and his brothers founded Hunt Brothers Pizza, a wholesale pizza distribution brand currently serving more than 9000 locations worldwide. More than the business’s success, the brothers rejoiced in the ability it provided them to serve their communities.

Don had an undeniable passion for helping others be it his family, employees, or a stranger in the grocery store. His generosity and love for God truly knew no bounds. His life and legacy can best be summed up by the mantra he repeated so often, “Trust in God to meet our needs, and be a blessing to people.”

The family would like to thank the compassionate staff at Wessex Towers, St. Thomas Hospital, West Meade Place, as well as Dr. David Allen and his staff.

Services will be at St. Henry’s Catholic Church with visitation on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 from 4 PM to 6 PM, and on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 9 AM followed by funeral mass at 10 AM. Graveside services immediately after at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Camp Marymount and American Heart Association.
