The Memphis-based fried chicken restaurant, Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken, has returned to Nashville.
The restaurant announced on social media that it is open, sharing, “Nashville, we’re frying up something special! 🤩🍗🐓 Come get your Gus’s fix at our brand new location NOW OPEN!”
The new location is at 851 Dickerson Pike, Nashville. Previously, Gus’s Chicken had a location in Nippers Corner, 871 Old Hickory Boulevard, for three years before closing, reports NashToday.
According to the restaurant’s website, they offer hand-battered fried chicken. This is not to be confused with Nashville hot chicken, but it is southern spicy fried chicken. Sides of baked beans, slaw, potato salad, mac and cheese, and fried okra are made in-house daily.
Maggie and Na Bonner began the restaurant in Mason, Tennesee, over 60 years ago. After their deaths in 1982-83, their son, Vernon Gus Bonner, continued the family tradition. In 1984, the restaurant reopened as Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken.
Over the years, they have received accolades from Travel Channel, such as the 12th Restaurant in America to Chow Down, and GQ Magazine believes Gus’s is one of the top 10 restaurants in the world worth flying to for a meal. Hours of operation are Sunday through Thursday, 11 am to 9 pm, and Friday through Saturday, 11 am to 10 pm.
