Metro Parks, in conjunction with the Tennessee Arts Commission and Creative Parks Nashville, is presenting a free day of music at Hadley Park on Saturday, May 21. Hadley Park is located at 1037 28th Ave N, Nashville.
Headlining the show is Nashville’s very own and very popular Brassville, a local brass band that performs in the New Orleans tradition. Comprised of musicians from Tennessee State and Howard Universities, the band was formed with the intention of bringing the visual of the brass band tradition typically seen in and around New Orleans to the Nashville area. But sonically there is nothing traditional about Brassville. They have recorded with world-renowned artists and producers such as J. Jackson, Ron Gilmore, and Ski Beats, and collaborated with local hip hop legends Brian Brown and Starlito. Their funky sound has afforded them to lend their talents to multiple venues such as Exit/In, ACME Feed & Seed, The Local Distro, Slim & Husky’s NKA Gallery, and more. They’ve been featured in publications such as Nashville Scene, Urbanite, and NPR-WPLN.
Also on the bill are The Imperial Blues Hour and Café Cola’o. The Imperial Blues Hour is an electric blues trio featuring Jack Ruch, who is quickly becoming the most sought-after guitarist on YouTube and Instagram. Jack is a Nashville guitar player and teacher known for his jazz-flavored blues and soul stylings. He plays and teaches simple, yet sophisticated, harmonic, melodic, and improvisational approaches to coloring the blues.
Café Cola’o completes the bill by playing the traditional sounds of Latin America. Renowned spoken word artist Sommer Jade will serve as the emcee for the day! Based out of Nashville, Sommer Jade infuses poetry and spoken word with music, to create PoetiVerses. A lyricist at heart, with a passion for reciting poetry, Jade credits all of the art to “the Divine Intelligence of the Most High God.” With a blend of poetic truth and passionate love for music, the perspective of her work is to speak life.
There will be food trucks, refreshments, games, and community engagement.
