The incident happened on June 26 around 10:33 a.m.  at the Walmart located at 3458 Dickerson Pike. Surveillance video shows a man, described as a slender Black man between 21 and 35 years old, entered the store just after 9:50 a.m. and grabbed a bottle of lighter fluid before collecting other items, including clothing material, from other areas of the store.

Investigators believe the man placed the items inside a trash can in one of the aisles, set the contents on fire and then left the store without purchasing any items. Customers noticed the burning trash receptacle and moved it to keep the fire from spreading. Walmart employees then put out the fire with an extinguisher.

No injuries were reported.

Authorities say the man had short deadlocks and was wearing an orange shirt, khaki pants and white shoes at the time of the incident.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect or has information about the case is asked to contact the Nashville Fire Department Fire Investigations Unit at 615-207-4212. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through the Tennessee Arson Hotline at 1-800-762-3017.
