July 30, 2025 – Specialized Investigations Division detectives Tuesday night apprehended accused murderer Derek Michael Randolph, 25, after a tactical vehicle takedown of the stolen Kia Forte he was driving on Dickerson Pike. Inside the Kia were a pistol, fentanyl, crack cocaine and marijuana.
Investigation by Homicide Unit Detective David Boone led to the identification of Randolph as the gunman who opened fire into a Jeep Cherokee as it began to pull away from the gas pumps at Honeysuckle Market at 167 Lafayette Street in the early morning hours of April 19. The driver of the Jeep, Michael Robinson, 37, was fatally shot. One of his four passengers was wounded. Robinson and his friends were visiting from Memphis. The shooting appeared to have been unprovoked.
Randolph was brought to police headquarters following his arrest. He declined to give a statement and was then booked into the Metro Jail. A judicial commissioner set his bond at $495,000 on the one count of criminal homicide and four counts of attempted criminal homicide.
