Bettye Jane Deathridge, age 97 of Nashville, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024.
Preceded In death by husband of 65 years, David B. Deathridge; parents, Hugh and Dimple Grigg; and brother, Letcher Carr Grigg.
Survived by daughters, Debbie Brooks and Laura McCullough; grandchildren, Jenny (Jeff) Melson, Jeffrey Brooks and Molly (Daniel) Ryan; and great-grandchildren, Lilly Melson, Wesley Brooks, Teddy Ryan and Will Ryan.
Bettye Deathridge was a true homemaker! An excellent cook who enjoyed receiving and sharing recipes. For many years, she wore an apron and carried dishes around the table serving our family.
Betty cultivated many beautiful flowers to put in vases in the house. Often, while cleaning the house, she would sing “Brighten the Corner Where You Are.”
Bettye went on trips with her husband, David, and many with her Golden group at Crieve Hall Church where she was a faithful member for over 60 years.
Her Grandchildren and Great-Grands lovingly called her “Nannie.” She traveled alone to Okinawa, Japan, for the birth of her first Grand, Jenny. She came to Memphis for her second Grand, Jeffrey. And her third Grand, Molly, stayed with her until she started to school. She loved being Great Gran to Lilly, Wesley, Teddy and Will.
Bettye’s family would like to thank Crieve Hall Church for the loving kindness members have shown in many ways. We would also like to thank caregivers at Cloverland Park Senior Living where she was known as “Bettye Boop.” Our thanks, as well, to Highpoint Hospice.
Funeral services will be conducted by Bill Watkins on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. (visitation 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.) at Crieve Hall Church of Christ, 4806 Trousdale Drive, Nashville, TN 37220. Graveside services and Interment conducted by Tim Frizzell at Woodlawn Cemetery on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Harrison Shull, Dr. Paul Strumb, Dr. Steven Tai and Dr. Gary Jerkins.
