The Tennessee Department of Children’s Services (DCS) in partnership with the Tennessee Alliance for Kids and the Kevin Byard Foundation have opened a new transitional home in Davidson County to serve youth who are awaiting placement.

The home is located on Foster Avenue in South Nashville. It is comprised of two cottages and can accommodate up to 12 children. The home will be operated by the DCS and staffed with DCS personnel when in use.

Each cottage is fully furnished with beds, linens, couches, tables, chairs, and desks. There is also a recreational area with a TV, Play Station, Xbox, video games, movies, boards games, fuse ball table, and air hockey table.

“I am grateful to the Kevin Byard Foundation and the Tennessee Alliance for Kids for providing funding to renovate and furnish our new transitional home,” said Commissioner Jennifer Nichols. “I also want to thank First Lady Maria Lee for helping set-up the home and her continued dedication to improving the lives of Tennessee’s children.”

There are currently 17 transitional homes across the state. The homes provide a safe environment where children can receive physical and emotional support while they wait for foster care placement. To learn more about how to support or become a foster parent visit https://tnfostershope.tn.gov/.
