Outstanding coordination between Southeast Precinct officers and MNPD Aviation Sunday morning led to the arrest of three teenagers who were seen performing dangerous driving stunts in the middle of I-24 East. A group of more than 10 vehicles had shut down the interstate doing donuts and burnouts, but left the area prior to officers arrival.
The group was located by MNPD Aviation on Old Hickory Boulevard and as officers approached them, the vehicles fled. A white Infiniti was followed by the helicopter as it reached more than 115 miles per hour down I-24 near Bell Road. Southeast officers attempted to stop the Infiniti near Haywood Lane, but it once again continued to flee at a high rate of speed.
The Infiniti eventually stopped at a home on Packard Drive where the three occupants ran from the vehicle, but were quickly apprehended.
The 16-year-old driver was charged in Juvenile Court with drag racing, inciting a riot, evading arrest, reckless driving and reckless endangerment among other charges. His two female passengers, ages 15 and 13, were both charged with evading arrest and juvenile curfew violation.
