A self-defense claim is under investigation following Sunday’s 11:15 p.m. fatal shooting at a gas station on Clarksville Pike. Ricky Starks Jr., 42, was shot after an altercation with Ricky Johnson Jr., 34, outside of the store.
Johnson remained at the scene and told detectives he was exiting the Citgo when he was confronted by Starks. He said Starks pointed a gun at his head and pistol whipped him multiple times before demanding him to empty his pockets.
The two then ran into the store where Johnson fired his own handgun at Starks multiple times. Video surveillance supports Johnson’s account of events.
Starks was transported to Skyline Medical Center where he died.
This investigation is continuing and will be staffed with the District Attorney’s Office at the conclusion.
