The 51-year-old pedestrian involved in a collision this morning on Demonbreun Street at 13th Avenue South has died. The preliminary investigation shows Roger Freels, of Nashville, was walking in the intersection just after 4:30 a.m. when he was struck by a Dodge Charger.

The driver of the Charger reported that he did not see Freels as he was turning left onto the I-40 East entrance ramp. Evidence at the scene indicates Freels was not in a crosswalk and was within the intersection at the time of the crash.

There were no signs of speeding, impairment or distraction at the scene. No charges were placed against the 37-year-old driver.

Freels died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
