A passenger of a Jeep Grand Cherokee died in a crash on Anderson Road May 4, 2023. The preliminary investigation indicates the Jeep, which had been reported stolen, was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when a Hermitage Precinct officer attempted to stop the vehicle.
The Jeep fled and the officer did not pursue. A short time later, the officer came up to the intersection of Anderson Road and Old Anderson Road where the Jeep had struck a steel utility pole and a guardrail before coming to rest in the middle of the intersection.
Five occupants were in the Jeep at the time of the crash. The driver of the Jeep fled the scene after police arrived.
One of the rear passengers, a 27-year-old man, died at the scene. Efforts are underway to notify his family.
The other three, ages 25, 22 and 21, were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
A handgun was recovered from inside the stolen Jeep, along with tools utilized to steal vehicles.
Crash Investigators are working to identify the driver that fled the scene.
