William Kinnard “Bill” Jones of Goodlettsville, TN passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, 3 days after his 95th birthday.
He was preceded in death by his parents Will H. and Floy Jones, his sisters Mildred (James) Fitzgerald and Christine (Joe) McKnight. He is survived by his loving wife of 76 years, Bonnie. They married when she was 16 and he was 18. He promised to always take care of her, and he faithfully did. They were totally devoted to each other and to their family which includes their son, Kinny (Alanda) Jones, and their daughter, Kim (Dean) Haynes; their grandchildren: Ben (Becky), Abby, Parker, Zach (Tiffany), and Cara; their great-grandchildren: Jordan (Kaleb), William (Molly), Emmet, Molly, Norah, Hudson and another one due in September; and their great-great granddaughter: Teagan. Bill was extremely proud of each one of them and had special stories he loved to share about each one. All of these family members would say he was their rock and they relied on his wisdom and guidance. He was also very fond of his nieces and nephews.
Bill worked hard all of his life. As a boy, he worked at Calvin Thurman’s Grocery delivering groceries on his bicycle. After graduating from Litton High School, he worked as an accountant for several downtown businesses. Later he became an accountant for Hillhurst Homes and eventually gravitated toward the construction industry. He established Bill Jones Builders and built residential homes all over the city. Ultimately he partnered with George Hussey and predominantly built metal warehouses and motels. He also built the Kemper Heights church building, as well as the additions.
When he was able to retire, he became everyone’s handyman. He was a master gardener and loved to share the bounty. He and Bonnie canned hundreds of jars of vegetables, jellies and salsa that they loved to share with others and to supply food for the weekly Sunday dinners with family. Bill showed the love of God and demonstrated that love faithfully to the very end. His greatest honor was serving as elder at Joseph Avenue/ Kemper Heights Church of Christ for 54 years. He was a passionate student of the Bible. He enjoyed teaching classes and challenging class members with Bible facts.
He prepared his whole life to receive the reward that is now his. Bonnie will tell you “he was a good man his whole life-even when he was a boy” “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:7
