Wayne M. Harris

Wayne Miller Harris, age 84, of Ridgetop, Tennessee passed away on January 13, 2022 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, after a battle with pneumonia.

He was born on December 23, 1937 to the late Raymond Carney and Roberta Mary Harris.

Wayne was a graduate of Greenbrier High School and worked for many years at Oscar Mayer as a Maintenance Technician and later for himself in construction and as a handyman. He married the love of his life, Annette Cantrell, on September 20, 1963, and they were blessed with two children.

Wayne loved his family and his Lord. He was an active member of Ridgetop First Baptist Church where he served as deacon and also Worship Leader for a few years. Wayne loved to sing in the choir but some of Marna’s and Brad’s fondest memories were when their parents sang special music at church, particularly “The Lighthouse” (by The Hinson Family). Family and friends time was spent fishing at PJ’s, Big Sandy or Kentucky Lake but sometimes just sitting at home playing cards made for the greatest memories.

He loved his community and volunteered for many years as a firefighter for Ridgetop Fire Department and helped build the old fire hall on Highland Ave. He was an Alderman for Ridgetop for many years and Commissioner for Dixie Youth Baseball. Wayne enjoyed calling games for Dixie Youth while his wife Annette was the official score keeper. One of his proudest moments was calling the games in the Dixie Youth World Series tournaments when they were held at Moss Wright Park in Goodlettsville.

In addition to his parents, Wayne is preceded in death by his sister, SuAnne Bottoms and Judy Kirby; brother, Raymond Harris, Jr.

Wayne preceded his lovely wife into Heaven just four days before her passing.

He is survived by her children, Marna Wanette Pennington and Bradley Thomas (Megan) Harris; grandchildren, Angelina (Bacilio) Domingo, Haylee Harris, Shelby Harris, Kiya Harris, Braelyn Harris, Jaxson Harris, and Gunnar Harris; great-granddaughter, Adalynn Elliott; brothers-in-law Billy Bottoms and Ed Kirby, along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 21, 2022, at 2 pm with Brother Ralph Carter officiating. Entombment will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, January 20, 2022, from 4-8 pm, then again on Friday from 11 am until to time of service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ridgetop First Baptist Church: 1757 Hwy 41 S Ridgetop, TN 37152.
