Theodore-Trimmier-McCarley-III

Theodore Trimmier McCarley, III, “Ted,” age 69, also known as Dad, Grandpa, Pawpaw, Teddy, and Uncle Ted died at home in the arms of his loving wife Deb following a year-long struggle with cancer. Ted was a gentle spirit who loved his family, friends, football, basketball, baseball, music, grass, trees, and all things green.

Ted was born in Nashville on January 31, 1953, to Susan and Trimmier McCarley, Jr. (both deceased).

He is survived by his wife Deborah McCarley, two children, Tee McCarley (Lynley) and Ellie McCarley Keiper (Zak), their mother Patricia McCarley Cave, two stepdaughters, Barbara Liszcz (Kurt) and Laura Sutton (Brendan), his two sisters, Elizabeth McCarley O’Shea (Ross) and Susan McCarley Spaulding (Bruce) as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Just the mention of his four grandchildren, Susan and Anne McCarley and Caroline and James Keiper as well as Deb’s six grandchildren, Caden, Kai, Junah, Alanna, Aria, and Emilia brought a twinkle to his eye.

Ted grew up at Parmer School where he was known as “Smiling Teddy,” graduated from Montgomery Bell Academy where he played football, and attended Vanderbilt University where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He graduated from the University of Tennessee School of Agriculture with a degree in horticulture and pursued a career in landscaping, started The Nashville Seed Company, and later worked as a stagehand with I.A.T.S.E. Local #46. He founded the McCabe Park Little League and was fondly called “Coach.” Ted remained an avid Vanderbilt fan until his death.

The family wishes to thank Ted’s caregivers as well as the physicians and nurses who cared for him at St. Thomas Hospital West, Tennessee Oncology, and the Dan Rudy Cancer Center.

Gifts in his memory may be made to the Vanderbilt Athletic Association, the Ascension St. Thomas Foundation, or the charity of your choice. Plant a tree to honor Ted and think of him when you see a blade of grass.

Visitation will start at 1:00 PM followed by a Celebration of Life starting at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at West Harpeth Funeral Home located at 6962 Charlotte Pike in Nashville. https://www.westharpethfh.com
