Shirley F. Clay

Shirley F. Clay was born on August 21, 1941 in Wilson, County to the parents of Mary and Bennie Clay. She departed this life on September 23, 2021 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Shirley moved to Nashville when she was four years of age and received her formal education in the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools system attending Carter Lawrence and later graduating from the Historic Cameron High School.

Shirley was a loving and caring person and made many friends throughout her life. She professed a hope in Christ and was baptized at Hicks Tabernacle Primitive Baptist Church and later joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and served on the Usher Ministries. She was employed for many years at the May Hosiery Mills, ending her employment at Sunday School Publishing Board where she retired in 1977 after 28 years of service.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Clay, and her father, Bennie Clay. She will be missed dearly. She leaves to cherish her memories her daughters, Teresa A. Clay, Sheila F. Featherson; three grandchildren, Derrick, Dom Dee Dee Featherson, Candice Clay; three great-grandchildren, Troy, Kevin, Kenya Clay; sisters…… brothers,…….; special friends, Dorothy Cannon, Charlotte Wright, Gail Gunn, Pat Curry, Val McMurray; and a host of nieces, nephews, numerous other relatives, and friends.
