Ruby Cecilia Rhymes
Devoted family woman and friend
Proverbs 30:10-31 ‘The Wife of Noble Character’

Ruby Cecilia Rhymes returned home to the Father on Sunday, October 23, 2022. She was born as the second daughter to Samuel Scott and Bernice Anderson Scott in Chicago, IL. on December 16, 1958. Ruby was baptized into the Christian faith in 1982 and lived as a Christian until her parting day.

Ruby used her many gifts and giving heart to assist others in looking and feeling their best. She was a beautician, seamstress, guard, medical assistant/phlebotomist, and substitute teacher – a true “Jacquelyn of all trades”. Her favorite movies were westerns, love stories and comic book heroes. Ruby played video and word games, enjoyed fishing, and working with her hands.

Ruby always honored those that helped in her upbringing: paternal aunt Linnie D. Mormon, Horace Mormon (posthumously) and maternal aunt Grace Leon Mullins (posthumously).

She is survived by four daughters – Karen M. Scott, Teri S. Scott, Crystal M. Mitchell, and Maya S. Rhymes; Granddaughter – Tyjonae S. D. Stovall; sisters Brenda T. Redmond (Roosevelt) and Karen M. Murray (Fred); Nieces – Candace, Kimberly, and Erica; Nephews – Edward and Frederick; a host of great nieces and nephews. Dear first cousins Gregory Jordon, Marcia Eggleston (family), Jewel Davis (family), Marcia R. Leon (family), Lynda Flint (family), Dorice Leon, and many other close cousins. Dear friends – Debra Robinson, Sandra Hawthorne, Mary Dyson (Mrs. Tylor), Lisa Outlaw-Waller, Vanessa Johnson, and Melinda Hart, along with many lifelong Chicago friends and Nashville friends.

Ruby was preceded in death by husbands Darnell Rhymes (2009) and Perry C. Mitchell (1986), daughter Christian Rhymes (1996), and her parents.

Psalm 46:5 ‘God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns’.
