Richard Thomas “Tommy” Dixon, age 90, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, on October 3, 1934, Tommy lived a life devoted to faith, family, music, and ministry.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Rubynelle Bennington Dixon, and by his parents, Ezre Cassity Dixon and Eunice Mabel Trammell.

Tommy is survived by his sons Rick (Amy) Dixon and Chris (Margaret) Dixon; grandchildren Sean Dixon, Kaylee (Riley) Miller, Olivia Dixon, and Tommy Dixon; sister Pat Madaris; sisters-in-law Helen Roberson and Sandy Crawford (Alan); and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

A graduate of Howard College (Samford University) and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Tommy dedicated his life to Christian ministry. He served faithfully as Youth Director at First Baptist Church in Longview, Texas, the Baptist General Convention of Texas and Lifeway Christian Resources (formerly the Baptist Sunday School Board).

For over 51 years, Tommy was an active and cherished member of First Baptist Church Nashville. He served as Deacon Emeritus, a member and past President of the Sanctuary Choir, and Sunday School Director for the Young Married Department. Gifted with a beautiful tenor voice and the ability to play the piano by ear, Tommy shared his love of music throughout his life. Even after moving to Harmony at Brentwood in 2019, he continued to bless others as director of the Harmony Choir.

Tommy also had a deep love for travel and adventure. He led groups on trips and traveled to more than 60 countries, always ready with a captivating story and a warm sense of humor that brought joy to everyone around him.

A visitation will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church Nashville, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Memorial Park. https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/nashville-tn
