June 26, 2025 – Jonathan Mercer, 25, remains jailed this morning on $19,500 bond after he fled from Violent Crimes Division detectives last night in a stolen vehicle, causing a crash on 14th Avenue North that injured an innocent driver.
Detectives observed a white Infiniti Q50 near Georgia Court last night with a fake temporary tag and a broken sunroof. The Infiniti had been stolen out of county on June 11.
Detectives initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and Mercer fled at a high rate of speed down 14th Avenue North. As the Infiniti approached the intersection at Church Street, he ran the red light and struck another vehicle.
Mercer got out of the Infiniti and began running from detectives. He was quickly taken into custody.
The other driver was treated by medics at the scene for his injuries.
During a search of the Infiniti, a second temporary tag was found underneath the fake tag, which came back to a Kia Rio.
Mercer was charged with aggravated reckless driving, vehicle theft, theft of property, resisting arrest and both felony and misdemeanor evading arrest among several other charges.
