Mr, Philip Earl Coleman passed away on Monday, April 4, 2022, surrounded by his family, he was 86 years old.
He was born on October 9, 1935 in Nashville, TN to the late William Fowler Coleman and Margaret Wills Coleman.
Philip was a graduate of North High School (1953) and David Lipscomb College (1962). He voluntarily served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953-1956, with tours in Korea and the Canadian arctic. He remained deeply patriotic throughout his lifetime. He returned home from service to wed his sweetheart, Delores Jones, in 1957.
Philip worked in the comptroller’s office at Cain Sloan department store in Nashville, later spending the bulk of his career as an auditor for the State of Tennessee. He was a Certified Public Accountant and ran his own accounting practice for several years. He was a long-time member of the Hillsboro Church of Christ, where he proudly served as an elder.
Many will remember Philip for his quiet, lovable demeanor. His presence brought joy to others from warm greetings offered at the church door on Sunday mornings, to sitting beside hunting buddies in a duck blind, to sharing coffee and laughter around a table of friends. He was a trusted advisor to his family, a loyal partner to his wife, and a hero to his children.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Delores Jones Coleman; son, Ben Coleman; daughter, Carol Beth (Monte) Williams; grandsons, Brent Coleman and Ryan (Martha) Coleman; and sister, Mary Margaret (Richard) DeLuca. He was preceded in death by four other beloved siblings, Emery Coleman, Henry Coleman, Marilyn Henderson, and Judy York.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2022, at the Hillsboro Church of Christ chapel, 5800 Hillsboro Pike. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery.
