Otis Wayne Baldock, age 87 of Nashville, TN left us to go home to the Lord on Friday, April 6, 2024.
Wayne was born in Summer Shade, KY on March 1, 1937, to the late Murrell Elizabeth Huffman and Wilmer Ernestine Baldock.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Wilmer and Murrell Huffman Baldock and his wife, Brenda Howell Baldock.
He is survived by his son, Henry Judson Baldock (Jennifer); grandchildren, Myers Anne Baldock and Elizabeth Boyd Baldock; and sister, Brenda Kathryn Blakeman (Mike).
He grew up stripping tobacco, baling hay and tending cattle during the day and playing mischief with his cousins at night. Deciding he had enough of that, at age 17 he moved to Nashville, TN with his cousin Larry and lived at the YMCA while working as an elevator operator for National Life Accident and Insurance Company.
He fell in love with a country girl from the claims department, and they married in Corinth, MS on April 27, 1957. They were married just shy of 67 years until Brenda’s death in February. After 14 years of marriage, they welcomed their only child, Henry Judson Baldock “Jud”. Despite his frequent travel, he always had time for his son, having him by his side whether woodworking, fixing cars, Scouting, or starting new hobbies.
Wanye traveled the whole country managing real estate for National Life/American General (AIG), building a network of interesting people. He was very proud of his service to the Building Owners and Managers Association, where he had a lasting impact in local, national and international leadership roles with the organization. Together, Wayne and Brenda collectively served the company for more than 110 years.
After retirement, Wayne loved traveling with Brenda, making pens on his turning lathe, attending his granddaughters’ events, fellowshipping with his brothers and sisters at Woodson Chapel Church of Christ, and caring for his beloved dogs, Captain Jack and Bently. Active with his hands, direct with his words, and gentle in his spirit, Wayne will be remembered for his sense of humor, charming friendliness, and dedication to his family and his church.
