Gary Ragsdale ‘Rooster’ Drennon, age 81, of Old Hickory, Tennessee passed away on Sunday,  April 7, 2024.

Gary was born in Nashville, TN and was the son of the late, Ragsdale Drennon and Mary Frances Williams Drennon.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Gary was a member of American Legion Post #88 and former Post Commander of American Legion Post #82. He was also past State Commander of the American Legion for the State of Tennessee, 2009-2014 Chairman of the Nashville-Davidson County Coordinating Council and Coordinator for the Music City Honor Flight. Gary was a member of Goodlettsville Masonic Lodge #271 F&AM. He was also a member of Al Menah Shrine and past Captain of the Drum and Bugle Corp.

In addition to his parents, Gary is also preceded in death by his brother, William Lynn “Slim” Drennon, nephew, Terry Drennon and daughter-in-law, Andrea Drennon.

He is survived by:
Wife of 58 years – Barbara Talley Drennon
Sons – Gary Dale (fiancée, Larci Byrd), Christopher Lee (Michelle) Drennon and Chad William (Raiza) Drennon
Grandchildren – Jessica (Michael) Hamilton, Julie (Douglas) Harp, Briana Drennon, Rebecca Drennon, Gage Drennon, Adam Drennon, Makayla Drennon and Noah Drennon
Great-grandchildren – Laila Hamilton, Brantley Hamilton, Weston Hamilton, Emma Drennon, Olivia Harp and Mila Hamilton
Mother-in-law – Carrine Talley
Many other extended family members and lifelong friends

A graveside service with military honors will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2024 at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Gary Dale Drennon, Chris Drennon, Chad Drennon, Michael Hamilton, Douglas Harp and Gage Drennon.

Flowers accepted or memorials made be made to American Legion Post #88 or the veteran’s charitable organization of your choice.

Visitation will be 10 a.m.–11:45 a.m. Thursday with a Masonic service to follow at Bond Memorial Chapel, 1098 Weston Drive, Mt. Juliet, TN. (615) 773-2663, www.bondmemorial.com
