Mother Mattie Eva Cartwright was born to the late William and Clifferdean Mathis on February 8, 1937 in Nashville, Tennessee Mattie departed this life on September 7, 2022 at Skyline Medical Center.
Mother Cartwright accepted Christ at a very early age. She later united with Greater Saint John Baptist Church under the late Pastor Dr. F.M. Spence, where she became a devoted mother of the church.
Mother Cartwright attended Metro Davidson County Public Schools, where she ended her educated at Pearl High School. Mattie’s true passion was cooking. This passion took her to work at Vanderbilt Medical Center for many years. Her love for cooking also drove her to take her children under her wing to pass on this passion and keep the legacy going.
Mattie’s heart touched many as her home was always open to anyone who needed a listening ear or a place to stay. She never met a stranger.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ronald E. Cartwright, and daughters Vanessa “Nana” (Herbert) Bradley, Erika E. Campbell, and Walter D. Campbell.
Mother Cartwright leaves to cherish her memories her children, Floyd (Lynn) Campbell, Calvin Campbell, Reginald Campbell, tonya (Lloyd) Hall, Eugenia (Daryle) Jones, and Ronald (Candice) Cartwright, devoted godchildren, James Hambrick, Daaryl Hambrick and Nikki Hambrick, a host of grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and devoted friends.
