Mary Jane “Janie” Ware of Antioch, Tennessee passed away on Friday, September 23, 2022, she was 84 years old.

She was the daughter of the late, Leonard and Irene Hanback.

Mrs. Ware is preceded in death by her brother, Richard Hanback, sister, Beatrice Smith, and grandson, Joshua Ware.

Janie is survived by her husband, USAF Col (R) Bruce Ware; sons, Keith Ware (Rebecca) and USAF Col (R) Mark Ware (Christine); grandchildren, Emily Logan, Amanda Ware, Nicholas Ware and Samantha Rowe; great-grandchildren, Krislen, Connor and Hailey; sister, Marlene Baker and brother, USA Col (R) Raymond Hanback.

Born in Dayton, Ohio, on April 24, 1938, the middle child of five, two brothers and two sisters. Janie attended Washington Elementary School from kindergarten through 8th grade, then Wilbur Wright HS in Dayton.

The family moved from Dayton to the small country town of Pasco and Janie transferred from a large city school to Fairlawn High School, a local county school. In high school, she was a member of the Honor Society, Glee Club, Thespians and was a cheerleader for 2 years. Janie graduated as Valedictorian of her class in 1956, then married Bruce Ware in December 1958 and moved to Columbus, where Bruce was attending Ohio State University. Janie earned her MRS degree by working and helping with expenses while her husband was in college.

Bruce entered the USAF after graduation and they began a career of many moves including 3 tours overseas and the birth of 2 sons.

The marriage of Janie’s two sons, the commissioning of both in the USAF, and the birth of 5 Grandchildren were some of her proudest family moments.

While an Air Force wife she was a Cub Scout Den Mother, Tour Guide at the USAF Museum and a member of two USAF wives choral groups that performed throughout the local communities.

Upon retiring from the Air Force they moved to Nashville, TN, where Janie became very active in the Arlington United Methodist Church. She was a member of the church chancel choir and handbell choir, as well as serving as Chairman of the Administrative Board, Child Development Center, Kitchen Committee, Worship committee, and Visual Worship Committee. Janie also Co-chaired the Outreach committee and served on the Council of Ministries, Igniting Ministries Action Group and Visitation Committee.

Additionally, Janie served for eight years on the Executive Committee of Murfreesboro Christian Women’s Club.

An opportunity to gather with Family and Friends for Janie will be held Wednesday, October 5, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home.

Celebration of Life for Janie will be held on Thursday, 6 October 2022, beginning with a gathering at 9:30 AM followed by the Service at 11:30 AM in Woodlawn’s Dignity Hall.

Donations may be made in Janie’s honor to Arlington United Methodist Church, 1360 Murfreesboro Pike, Nashville, TN 37217.
