Mark-Leslie-Pyburn-Sr.

Mark Leslie Pyburn, Sr. passed away unexpectedly and peacefully in his home on Thursday, January 5, 2023.

A Nashville native, Mark was a loving husband, father, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, godfather, and friend to many.

Mark had many passions in his life, and he loved each of them with supreme gusto and enthusiasm. But the strongest love and passion in his life was his family: Margaret, his wife of 23 years, and his 5 children. Mark loved them and the time he spent with them above all else. Trips to the beach, grilling on his Traeger, shooting fireworks, watching old family videos, holidays, hibachi, sporting events, hanging out in the man cave, and other activities with his family were his most cherished moments.

And when Mark was not with his family, he was talking about them and how proud he was of all their accomplishments and accolades. An encounter with Mark was not complete without him proudly mentioning his wife or children.

Mark’s single purpose in life was to provide for and nurture his family. He loved intensely and was fiercely loyal to his family and friends.

Mark also loved Alabama football (Saban and the Bear), the Dodgers, coaching youth baseball, his Theta Chi Fraternity Brothers, Southern rock, and his old Bellevue neighborhood. Mark cherished these and many other interests with unbridled energy.

Mark was a caring son, who was devoted to his parents. Often, Mark was heard to relate stories about his dad – his real-life hero.

A devout Catholic and active parishioner at Christ the King, Mark truly lived the words of Pope Francis, who said: “It is not enough to say we are Christians. We must live the faith, not only with our words, but with our actions.”

Mark graduated from Father Ryan High School in 1988. He received his bachelor’s degree in Public Relations from the University of Alabama in 1993. He worked more than 20 years in the healthcare industry as a sales leader at GE Healthcare, Intuitive Surgical, and Optum Specialty Pharmacy. He most recently was Sales Director at Streamline Scientific. Well respected and valued by his team and colleagues, Mark received numerous honors and awards for his leadership during his career. Mark won the President’s Award many times allowing him to take Margaret on free trips to some of the most beautiful places in the world. He earned a reputation as a meticulous, high-achieving workhorse, who built teams that exceeded expectations.

Mark is survived by his wife Margaret (Strobel) Pyburn; daughters, Mary Catherine, Amelia Frances, Helen Strobel, and Margaret Magdalene (Mimi) and son Mark Leslie Jr.; parents Linda (Allen) and Frank Pyburn; sister Sherri Clark; in-laws Amelia Strobel (Bob) Glenn, Martin (Ashley) Strobel, Merrill (Robbie) Bohren, Daniel (Carrie) Strobel, and Morgan (Sara) Strobel; and 12 nieces and nephews: Tricia and Braden Glenn; Ann Gailor, Sullivan, Charlotte, and Gavin Strobel; Catherine Bohren; Alex, Benjamin, and Sam Strobel; and Andrew and Rosemary Strobel.
