Mack Stout Obit

Mr. Mack Stout of the Horseshoe Bend Community departed this life with his family at his bedside at 9:50 p.m. Wednesday evening March 19, 2025 at the age of 81 at the Highpoint Health – Riverview Medical Center in Carthage. He was admitted earlier that morning in respiratory distress because of years long battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

Funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home are scheduled for Sunday afternoon March 23rd at 3 p.m. Bro. Jim Wilburn and Bro. Tim Frank along with Mr. Stouts, son-in-law Rocky Cowell, will officiate the funeral service. Burial will follow by Mr. Stout’s parents in the Stout lot in the Garden of The Cross at the Smith County Memorial Gardens.

Visitation with the Stout family will be Saturday afternoon from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. and again on Sunday from 12 noon until the 3 p.m. funeral services at Sanderson in Carthage.

He was the son of the late Edd Stout who died June 7, 1982 at the age of 82 and Carrie Ester Grogan Stout who died August 4, 2008 at the age of 99 and was born Mack Austin Stout in the Putnam County section of the Indian Creek Community on August 28, 1943.

Siblings preceding him in death were Faye Johnson, Frankie Anderson, Kenneth Stout, Pearlie Fields and Peggy Roberts.

He was a member of the 1961 graduating class at Smith County High School. While there he majored in building trades, minored in agriculture and was a member of the trade and industrial club all four years. In a humorous saying in the annual it was stated about Mack; “I find excuses for myself”.

He was united in marriage to Elmwood Community native, the former Linda Carol Hunter on May 27, 1971. The 3 p.m. ceremony was performed at the Carthage Church of the Nazarene by Mrs. Hunter’s uncle, Rev. Jasper White.

Mr. Stout retired in 1999 from the Ross Gear Division of the T. R. W. Corporation in Lebanon with thirty-four years of service.

He was saved at an early age and was a member of the Carthage First Baptist Church.

Mr. Stout was a very congenial gentleman with a friendly personality and was respected by all those who were acquainted with him.

Surviving in addition to his wife Linda, of almost fifty-four years, are their three children, Janet Stout Cowell and husband Rocky of South Carthage, Sammy Stout and wife Tina of Cookeville, Randy Stout and wife Cheryl of Spartanburg, South Carolina; sister, Donna Stout Kemp and husband James of the Caney Fork Community; two brothers, Eddie Stout and wife Pam Dillard Stout of Gordonsville and Charles Stout of Ohio, seven grandchildren, Michael Stout and wife Bailey, Mason, Eli, and Blakely Stout, April, Jessa and Sarah Cowell; two great-grandchildren, Avery and Cooper Stout.

Pallbearers: David Kemp, Scotty Roberts, Eli & Michael Stout, Josh Massey, Tony, Mark, & Richard Bush.
