Charles "Barry" Carney Obit

Charles “Barry” Carney, age 69 of Nashville, was born May 17, 1955, and passed away March 13, 2025. Barry was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was a selfless person who always put the happiness of others before his own. He had a great sense of humor and helped countless friends through their bad times. Barry loved the outdoors and could usually be found fishing or frog gigging.

He graduated from East Nashville high School in 1975. Barry worked tirelessly for C.B. Ragland trucking company, serving as secretary for the Teamsters Local 327. After his retirement, his entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly through when he started his roofing business. He modeled the true meaning of masculinity, empowering his son and others with the confidence to pursue their dreams. If you looked up the word GIVER in the dictionary, Barry’s face would be right beside it.

Barry’s son decided to allow him to make an anatomical gift. Barry’s skin tissue was donated to burn victims and cancer patients. His eyes will help two people to have vision, and his bone and connective tissue will help trauma and bone cancer patients. This is what Barry would have wanted and he would be so happy to have helped save so many people’s lives.

Preceded in death by his father, Jady Lyman Carney; mother, Sarah Roberta Spain Carney; brother, Randall Wayne Carney; sister, Teresa Kay Carney Davis.

Barry is survived by his wife, Oleen York Carney; sons, Christopher Shane Carney and Shawn Matthew Cole; sisters, Carol Carney Hall of Nashville, TN, Wendolyn Carney Smith (Tom) of Tullahoma, TN, and Brenda Carney Wood of Sun City, AZ; brothers, J.L. Carney of Phoenix, AZ and Roger Carney (Beverly) of Jackson, MO; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Elizabeth Carney, Braeden Christopher Carney, and Kourtlyn Malia Carney; niece, Kelly Hall Reynolds (Kevin); nephew, Jeffery Smith (Rhonda); step-children, Ashley Thomas (Kevin) and Michael Regg, Jr.; step-grandchildren, Taylor, Dylen, Blake, Isabella, Jaylon, Colton, and Kasin.
