Lee Cornelius Bowden Jr.

Lee Cornelius Bowden Jr. was born in Auburn, AL, to Dorma Fayssoux Bowden and Lee Cornelius Bowden.

His formative years were spent in Athens, GA, where he became a lifelong University of Georgia fan and very devoted to the Athens YMCA and the Athens Y Camps where he was a camper and a leader for many years. His family moved to Kentucky where he graduated from Bowling Green High School and Western Kentucky University.

Most of his career, Lee was in financial services and most recently in commercial seating. He was a past board member in the Nashville Area Junior Chamber of Commerce and was a partner in Moody and Webb Clothiers.

Lee was predeceased by his parents and brother, John Blitchington Bowden.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Robinson Bowden, daughter, Margaret (Meg) Bowden Ritchie (John), grandson, John Joseph Ritchie, III, brother Rhea Fayssoux Bowden (Nancy), and sister Amy Bowden Mathis (David), 2 nieces, and many other relatives.

He enjoyed all sports, especially U of Georgia football and Western Kentucky U basketball, and was past president of the Middle TN Bulldog Club. He also was an avid supporter of local high school football and baseball, especially Brentwood Academy, and served as a TSSAA football official for many years. As a member of Hillwood Country Club and the Lookout Mountain Club, Lee played many rounds of golf. He made numerous friends through the activities he enjoyed.

A longtime member of St. George’s Episcopal Church, he served as a vestry member and was very active in mission work at Our Little Roses Home in Honduras where he traveled many times. Lee always made a point to attend the Episcopal Laymen’s Conference held annually in Monteagle.

As a young professional and member of Junior Chamber, Lee was dubbed “Uncle Lee” by his peers, a nickname which stuck to this day. Always impeccably dressed, he made sure his shoes were shined and he had a fresh pocket square in his jacket. Lee never met a stranger; and whenever he met new people, he didn’t call them acquaintances, he called them friends. He will be missed by many.

A Visitation and Memorial Service will be held at St. George’s Episcopal Church at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. George’s Episcopal Church, 4715 Harding Road, Nashville, TN. 37205, https://www.stgeorgesnashville.org; or Athens Y Camp for Boys, PO Box 8, 1000 Y Camp Rd., Tallulah Falls, GA 30573, https://athensycamps.org; or Our Little Roses, https://www.ourlittleroses.org.
