Josh Rutherford Obit

A highly decorated Iraqi War Marine Veteran, Mr. Josh Rutherford of Nashville, entered eternal rest peacefully at 8:17 a.m. Wednesday morning October 15, 2025 at his Park Plus Drive apartment. Mr. Rutherford was 37.

Mr. Rutherford is at the Hackett Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. His funeral services are scheduled to be conducted on Friday afternoon October 24th at 1 p.m. from the Kempville Chapel Old Time Methodist Church. The church pastor, Bro. Bryan Bratcher, will officiate and burial will follow in the Rutherford family lot in the Garden of the Cross at the Defeated Creek Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive family and friends at the church only on Friday October 24th from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. services.

The American Legion Post #57 will conduct a military tribute at the church.

He was born Joshua David Rutherford in Marrero in Jefferson County, Louisiana on February 9, 1988 and is the son of Terry Glenn Rutherford of South Carthage and Audrey Ann Chaisson of Marrero, Louisiana.

He was a 2006 graduate of Belle Chasse High School in Belle Chasse, Louisiana.

Mr. Rutherford proudly served our country with the United States Marines having served in operation Iraqi Freedom where he served as a machine gunner for seven weeks in 2007 and in 2009 became an Infantry Machine Gun Leader.

He was discharged from Quantico, Virginia with the rank of Lance Corporal October 7, 2011. His total foreign service was one year and twenty-six days.

For his meritorious service he was awarded the following; Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, USS Nasau Humanitarian Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Presidential Letter of Appreciation, and Expert Rifle Qualification Badge.

He was employed by a Nashville Bonding Company working as a Fugitive Recovery Agent.

Mr. Rutherford was saved at the age of 9 and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Algiers, Louisiana.

Surviving in addition to his father and mother are his two children, Angelica and Christian Rutherford both of South Carthage; grandfather, Charlie G. Rutherford of the Kempville Community; five siblings, Wendy Rutherford of Carthage, Michael Rutherford and wife Brandy of Carrier, Mississippi, Mandy Rutherford and Jessica Rutherford both of Carthage, brother, Charles Bonds of Gretna, Louisiana; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

The Rutherford family requests memorial to assist with funeral expenses in lieu of flowers.
