Jewel Shockney Hudson

Jewel Shockney Hudson, age 88 of Nashville, TN passed away on November 10, 2021.

Jewel was a special woman. She impacted many lives in a variety of ways. Jewel was the youngest of nine children. She grew up in North Nashville. Jewel was devoted to her husband of 42 years, John, a Church of Christ minister who died 30 years ago. She found challenges in being a widow, but she learned how to take care of herself, her family, and her home. Jewel was a strong woman.

Jewel was happiest anytime she got all five of her children and their families together. Jewel’s children were “raised right;” each of them having strong values and contributing hugely to their various communities.

Jewel was a loyal friend. She knew how to treat each family member or friend as an individual. She would create a special and unique relationship with each one. Besides her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Jewel formed a special bond with her nieces and nephews. As the last of nine children, she felt a heartfelt love and responsibility for each one.

Jewel was a member of the Antioch Church of Christ for nearly 30 years, and she involved herself in the Thirty-Niners group. Jewel loved her church activities and the rich friendships that were developed. She also enjoyed being part of a group of walkers at Harding Mall, 100 Oaks, and Hickory Hollow. Another source of friends for Jewel was the Silver Sneakers at the YMCA.

By the way, she loved Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and ice cream.

Jewel is survived by her five children: John Hudson (Leslie), Donna (Mary), Beverly Torlay, Larry Hudson (Kay), and Bobby Hudson (Renee). She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Whitney Cantrell (Michael), Kingsley Strickhausen (Stephen), Seaver Hudson, Haley Armstrong (Blake), Kayla Irvin (Will), Grant Hudson (Kyndall), and Brent Hudson (Alissa). Additionally, Jewel had 17 great-grandchildren.

Services will be conducted Sunday, December 5, 2021, at Antioch Church of Christ, 2142 Antioch Pike at 2:00 p.m. (visitation 1-2 p.m.) by Michael Whittington. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery. Family and Friends will serve as Pallbearers.
