Jerrie Lee England was born March 14, 1943 on her Mother’s birthday and on the same day her only cousin on her Mother’s side was born! She was the youngest of five children born to Henry Russell England, Sr. and Doris Olivia Stuart England who predeceased her.
Her childhood nickname was “Tuffy” which fitted her well throughout her life. She was a graduate of the 1961 Class of Isaac Litton High School where she was a proud member of the Marching 100 band.
She continued her education at the University of Tennessee while working full time as a legal assistant in several major Nashville law firms. She also achieved the Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) designation. Her career included Executive Secretary positions to the CEO of HCA and to the Insurance Commissioner of the State of Tennessee.
Later she moved to Birmingham, Alabama, serving as legal assistant at the prominent Bradley, Arant, Boult Cummins Law Firm from which she retired in 2017 after 22 years.
Never one to sit around idly, Jerrie also served on the board of her Ivy Hills Condo Association. She stayed active on Facebook following many friends and family members. She was an avid sports fan especially of the NBA where LeBron James was her favorite.
Jerrie was very intelligent, thoughtful of others, generous with her means, quick witted, hard working, and loving. Her earthly pilgrimage ended suddenly on Tuesday morning, November 4, 2025 at Fair Haven Nursing Facility in Birmingham while awaiting transport to Grandview Hospital for ankle surgery.
She is predeceased by her parents and older sister, Mariel England Curtis, with whom she will be buried alongside.
She is survived by three older siblings, Russell England, Jr. of Clearwater, FL, Lynda England Wambles of Murfreesboro, TN, Mary Sue (Suzi) England Palys of Claremont, FL, eight nephews, three nieces, many grand nieces and nephews. She also is survived by Rebecca Garrick, who for the last several years, provided loving care for Jerrie and her three cats, Delilah (now deceased), Nefertitti and King Tut.
