Ellan Pauline Sanders passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on November 5, 2025 due to complications from a stroke she suffered in October 2024. She was born on April 5, 1926 in Ashland, KY. Known in her extended family as “Sissy” and “Aunt Sissy” she was the youngest of 14 children.
She was preceded in death by her parents William Charles Conroy and Bertha Mae Haas and all of her siblings.
Pauline loved writing and telling stories. She wrote and published a book when she was 88 years old. She leaves behind a number of unpublished short stories for her family to enjoy.
Pauline moved to Brentwood to live with family in 2018 and regularly attended Brentwood United Methodist Church until COVID forced her to attend online. She loved to travel, eat out and shop.
She is survived by four children: Ellan Dew of Ironton, OH, Taj Wolff (Alex) of Brentwood, TN, Todd Sanders (Pam) of Spring Hill, TN and Mark Sanders (Sheila) of Prestonsburg, KY, 18 grandchildren Todd Sanders, Jr, Trevor Sanders, Tai Sanders (Nichole), Talor Sanders (Stefanie), Nikki Burchett (Joe), Hope Wire (Kevin), Zachary Wolff, and Patrick Wolff. 11 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren plus her beloved cat, Silver.
Plans for a memorial service/celebration of life to be held in her hometown of Ashland, KY are incomplete at this time.
The family extends thanks to the nurses and staff at West Meade Place in Nashville, the nurses and staff at Alive Hospice, and pastors and prayer warriors at Brentwood United Methodist Church for their care and kindness.
