James “Jim” Robert Sweeney, Jr. age 87, entered into eternal life with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 20, 2022.

Jim attended Caldwell Elementary School, Waverly Belmont Jr. High, Montgomery Bell Academy, and David Lipscomb High School. Jim graduated from David Lipscomb University in 1955 with a degree in Accounting. Jim enlisted in the US Army serving for 6 years.

Jim began his career in the financial sector with Aladdin Industries, later moving to Road Builders, Inc. In his next opportunity, Jim began his 50-year career with Cherokee Equity Corporation owned by the Wilson family: David K Wilson, Sr., and sons. At that time, Jim’s career responsibilities included: Treasurer of Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes, obtaining his Funeral Director License, and later serving as President. Jim then moved to the Real Estate Division of Cherokee Equity, where he obtained his Real Estate Broker License.

Later, Cherokee ventured into the Insurance Company Division where Jim served as comptroller. Jim achieved his CPA license and later served as President of Cherokee Marine Terminal on the Cumberland River in Nashville. Lastly, Jim was promoted to Executive Vice President of Cherokee Equity Corporation. While Jim worked with Cherokee Equity Corporation, he was a member of the Nashville Exchange Club, National Accountants Association, and CPA Organization of Davidson County.

Jim’s faith was an important part of his life, serving as VBS teacher, youth leader, treasurer, and Deacon. He and his wife Doris were members of Lawrence Avenue Church of Christ, Crieve Hall Church of Christ, Concord Road Church of Christ, Woodson Chapel Church of Christ, and Nashville Road Church of Christ.

Jim is survived by his wife of over sixty years, Doris Ann Cordell Sweeney of Nashville/Brentwood/ Gallatin; sons, Craig and wife Cathy Sweeney of Hamilton, VA, Scott and wife Michelle Sweeney of Brentwood, Keith and wife Helen Sweeney of Brentwood; daughter, Traci, and husband Brian Stubblefield of Gallatin; grandchildren, Chelsea, Celeste, Lindsey, Mac, Jake, Shawn, Hadley, and Brinley; great-grandchildren, Alden and Thomas; brother in law, Dr. RE Cordell and wife Joanne.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from nine o’clock until ten-thirty in the morning on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at ten-thirty in the morning on Saturday, March 26, 2022 in Dignity Hall of Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home. The service will be officiated by Nashville Road Church of Christ’s minister, Tim Strickland.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
