Georgia Nicholson Demetros left this earthly life on October 3, 2024, at the age of 62 from complications of Multiple Sclerosis. Her body succumbed after 22 years of battling this dreadful disease although she never gave up hope or her fighting spirit.
She was loved and adored by everyone who knew her and she will be missed beyond measure. She was a true inspiration in the way she handled her MS. She never gave into it; always plotting and planning ways to be able to do something she couldn’t do. She was a strong woman far beyond the expectations of all of us. This constant hope and positive attitude kept her from ever suffering a deep depression or self-pity. She was always more interested in what was going on in others lives than ever complaining about her own.
Georgia was born in Chicago, Illinois and lived an idyllic live alongside her parents, sisters, cousins and extended Greek family. Her family moved to Nashville in 1976. She graduated from Franklin High School and went on to attend the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where she was a Sigma Chi little sister. She graduated with an advertising degree and went to work for Campbell Soup Company and eventually Royal Beauty Supply. But it was her role as wife, mother and Yiayia that brought her the most fulfillment and joy.
She is preceded in death by her parents Tom and Connie Nicholson.
She is survived by her ex-husband Nick Demetros, who was her caregiver for many years, children Nicky Demetros, Dena DuGan (Michael) and Alex Demetros. Grandchildren Nico and Davis Dugan, sisters Kathy Vasiliades (Jason), Becky Kotsianas (John), and numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, great nieces and nephews and aunts.
We sincerely thank the staff at Richland Place Health Center where she lived out the last two and a half years of her life. We thank all the nurses, social workers, CNAs, therapists and technicians who took such great care of her. There was always someone coming into her room to shower her with love.
A special thank you goes to her friend Cindy Martin who loved her like a sister. She was always problem-solving ways to help Georgia and went out of her way to keep her comfortable, happy and loved. We are forever grateful to Alive Hospice for the exceptional care they gave her and the family during her last few months. You are all angels in human form and we will never forget you.
A celebration of life service will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery on Friday, October 18th at 11:00 am with a graveside burial immediately following. https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/nashville-tn
