Elvadean Curlee Duke, 87, of Nashville, Tennessee passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2022, peacefully in her home and surrounded by her family.

She was born on August 15, 1934, in Woodbury, Tennessee, in the home of her grandparents. At two years old Elvadean and her parents moved to Nashville, and she graduated from North High School in 1952. After graduation, she worked for Aladdin until she married the love of her life, Bill Duke, in 1960. She and Bill met at the Charlotte Avenue Church of Christ.

Elvadean once shared that the greatest desire of her heart was to marry a good man, have children, and care for her home. She was so grateful that she was able to do just that.

Elvadean and Bill began attending Tusculum Church of Christ in 1961 and were faithful members of this church for their 61+ years of marriage. Elvadean loved to sew – hand sewing, quilting, making dresses for her daughters (including wedding dresses), and costumes for her grandsons. She also loved to send notes and take food to people in need. These are just some of the ways she served others.

After Bill retired, they enjoyed camping and traveling with friends, including a group they referred to as The Gatlinburg Eight.

Elvadean is survived by her husband, Bill; her three daughters, Stephanie (Jay) White of Lilburn, Georgia, Allyson (Jeff) Clifton of Cane Ridge, Tennessee and Cynthia (Pat) Bennett of Brentwood, Tennessee; six grandsons, Cooper (Jacque) White, Daniel (Alison) White, Benjamin (Rachel) White, John Courage (Makayla) White of Moscow, Idaho, and Brooks Bennett and Nathan Bennett of middle Tennessee; and five great-grandchildren, Tamar, Noah, Abraham, Reuel, and Enoch White.

A visitation for Elvadean will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, and Thursday, June 30, 2022, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Road, Nashville, TN 37211.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at 1:00 PM. https://www.woodbinefuneralhome.com

Memorial donations can be made to Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort, Inc. or Alive Hospice.

Pallbearers will be Elvadean’s grandsons – Cooper, Daniel, Benjamin, and John Courage White and Brooks and Nathan Bennett. Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Brown and The Gatlinburg Eight – Doug and Carolyn Hughey, Ray and Vessie Falconberry, and Jerry and Margie Shouse.
