Carl Wesley Crews Jr., 76, passed away peacefully, cradled in the arms of his Lord and surrounded by his loving family, on June 6, 2024.

Born on June 3, 1948, in Lebanon, Kentucky, Carl, affectionately known as “Junior” to his family and “Red” to his childhood friends, lived a life overflowing with love, adventure, and dedication.

Preceded in death by his parents, Carl Wesley Crews Sr. and Mary Louise Crews, Carl leaves behind a legacy cherished by many.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Carol Lee Crews; his children, Daniel Crews (Lisa Marie), Teresa Graves (Brandon), Trey Crews (McKeshia), Sarah Crews, and Brantley Crews; his stepchildren, Rex Davenport (Connie) and David Davenport (Tracey); his sister, Diane; his two nephews and one niece. Carl was a proud grandfather to 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Papaw.”

Carl’s journey began in the Bluegrass State, where the landscape of Kentucky fostered his fascination with nature and a passion for riding his motorcycle through the Kentucky hills. He graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1971 and dedicated his career to the Army Corps of Engineers, where he marveled at the natural world and contributed to its preservation. Carl’s interests extended beyond his professional life. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, finding joy in life’s simple pleasures, and he embraced every moment with his family.

A faithful follower and servant of Christ, Carl attended Northridge Church in White House, Tennessee. His deep faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him through life’s challenges and triumphs.

Carl’s friends, too numerous to count and scattered across America, will remember him for his warm spirit, generosity, and unwavering loyalty. His presence brought light and love to all who knew him. One of his favorite sayings was, “Don’t sweat the small stuff.” This sentiment perfectly encapsulates the way he lived his life.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM and on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM, with the service following at 1:00 PM at Woodbine Funeral Home -Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Road, Nashville, TN 37211.
