Belvya-Anita-Darthard

Belvya Anita Darthard was born on July 30, 1965, the only child of May Ester Frazier Darthard and Teamoh “Sleepy” Darthard.

She attended Metro Nashville Public Schools graduating from Maplewood Comprehensive High School in 1983. Belvya attended Tennessee State University where she pursued a major in Business Administration.

At the age of eighteen, Belvya began working for the United States Postal Service. She enjoyed serving as a postal employee in various post offices throughout Davidson County. One of her main assignments was processing passport applications. Belvya really enjoyed meeting and hearing the stories of her customers.

Due to ongoing health challenges, Belvya retired in the Fall of 2023 after an incredible forty-year career with the postal service.

Belvya had a tender heart for people and animals, especially dogs. It was not unusual for her to take in stray dogs who were fortunate to come across her path. As a child she wanted to become a veterinarian, however, as she got older, she realized her soft heart would not allow her to handle losing an animal and therefore veterinary medicine was not the field for her.

She was fierce and fearless growing up and as an adult, she was a force to be reckoned with if she thought someone she loved was being mistreated. Her belief in God helped to sustain her during the loss of both of her parents and during the decline of her health. In recent years she attended Howard Congregational Church.

On the evening of March 15, 2024, Belvya entered her eternal rest.

Belvya is predeceased by her parents May Darthard and Teamoh Darthard.

She is survived by her cousins, Ralph M. Thompson, Isaac (Benita) Thompson, Lisa Boykin Sanders all of Nashville, Tennessee; the Frazier and McCloud Families of Houston, Texas; special friends, Elmore and Judy Jordan, Mary Jo Manning, Cristi Scott Ligon and other extended family and friends.
