Barbara Gayle York Latimer, age 81 passed away September 23, 2024 surrounded by her family. She was born on February 24, 1943 in Nashville, TN to the late Ben Harwell York and Clara Irene Dillon York.
She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Joseph Barry Ragsdale; daughter, Amanda Gayle Darnall and sister, Billie Burgo.
She is survived by her daughters, Melinda Simpson (Chris) and LeeAnne Moore (Mike); sisters, Bonnie Morris (Louis), Beverly Cowan, Betty Collins, Becky Jones (David); brother, Buddy York, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other family members.
Barbara was a founding and longtime member of Jesus Reigns Fellowship Church. She earned her accounting degree and worked as a CPA for many years. She spent several of those years with Kmart and later with a CPA firm.
She enjoyed quilting, flowers and her family was extremely important to her. She was strong in her faith and was an overcomer. She survived polio at an early age. This helped lead up to her testimony.
When she was given the news by her doctor that her options were not favorable, she leaned into her faith and her testimony increased. In her last days here on earth, she impacted the hospital staff, doctors, nurses, friends and her family.
God revealed her purpose and allowed her time to see and hear how she had impacted others throughout her life. A cup of water, that she couldn’t have, yet she gave a sip Spiritually to everyone who she encountered. Matthew 25: 35-40.
