A devoted, much beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, the joy of his life was being with his family at home or on family trips. He was known and respected for his kindness, gratitude, and genuine nature.

A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, he moved with his family to Nashville in 1939. In college, he was called “Ike” for obvious reasons even though the last names were not spelled the same. The nickname stuck, and over the years, he was known as Ike by friends and family all the way down to his great-grandchildren.

He attended Vanderbilt University and received his M.D. upon graduation from Duke University in 1948. His internship and residency at The New York Hospital – Cornell Medical Center was interrupted by his service in the US Airforce Medical Corps. He completed his residency at New York Hospital as Chief Resident of Urology in 1955 and returned to Nashville to practice Urology as a Board-Certified Surgeon. In 1960, he founded Mid- State Urological Association.

He held membership in Nashville Academy of Medicine, Tennessee State Medical Association, American Medical Association, Nashville Surgical Association, and American Urological Association and served as Assistant Clinical Professor at Vanderbilt University Medical School.

He worshipped faithfully at West End United Methodist Church for over 60 years, where he served on the Administrative Board and in other capacities. Following retirement he enjoyed volunteering at General Hospital, Vanderbilt Urology Clinics, Adult Literacy, Boy Scouts of America, Habitat for Humanity and Room in the Inn. Over the years his hobbies included playing tennis and golf with family and friends.

His family would like to express their gratitude to his caregivers and all the staff at Woodcrest at Blakeford.
