Nine MNPD Veterans Promoted into New Leadership Roles

On Thursday, Sept. 27, Chief John Drake announced the promotion of 9 MNPD veterans, 4 to the rank of lieutenant, 5 to the rank of sergeant, effective October 1st to fill vacancies in various police department components.

“These 9 individuals have a combined 134 years of law enforcement experience in Nashville,” Chief Drake said. “I have every confidence in their abilities to be outstanding leaders in our police department in the months and years ahead.”

Those being promoted to lieutenant are:

• Sergeant Erika Bowden, an 18-year police department veteran who is currently assigned to the Strategic Development Division. She will now join the leadership team in the School Safety Division. Bowden holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
• Sergeant Chris Dickerson, a 7-year police department veteran who is currently a supervisor in the Homicide Unit. He will remain in the Homicide Unit as a lieutenant. Dickerson holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Rhode Island and a Master’s Degree from Cumberland University.
• Sergeant Justin Pinkelton, a 27-year police department veteran, who is currently a supervisor on the North Precinct’s day shift. He will now lead the Midtown Hills Precinct’s evening shift. Pinkelton holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Columbia Southern University.
• Sergeant Gbewa Mustapha, a 14-year police department veteran, who is currently a supervisor in the Violent Crimes Division. He will now lead the North Precinct’s evening shift. Mustapha holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Bethel University.

Those being promoted to sergeant are:

• Officer Joel Bennett, an 8-year MNPD veteran who is currently assigned to the North Precinct. He will now be a supervisor on the South Precinct’s overnight shift. Bennett holds an Associate’s Degree from Eastern Gateway Community College.
• Officer Brad Burns, a 27-year MNPD veteran who is currently assigned to the Emergency Contingency Section. He will now be a supervisor on the North Precinct’s evening shift. Burns holds a Bachelor’s Degree from MTSU.
• Officer Ashley Coon, a 15-year MNPD veteran who is currently assigned to the Special Response Team. He will remain on the Special Response Team as a supervisor. Coon holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Ball State University.
• Officer Amanda Kozen, an 8-year MNPD veteran who is currently assigned to the East Precinct. She will now be a supervisor on the North Precinct’s evening shift. Kozen holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Scranton Jesuit University.
• Officer Anthony Lopez, a 10-year MNPD veteran, who is currently assigned to the Domestic Violence Division. He will now be a supervisor on the West Precinct’s overnight shift. Lopez holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Michigan State University.
